If you have a legal problem, your best course of action is probably always going to be to hire an experienced attorney to assist you with it.
If you are convinced you cannot afford to do so, however, or if for some reason you are unwilling to do so, it may help you to know that many local law libraries offer self-help kits that provide guidance – and in some instances forms at fairly low cost – covering certain types of legal needs.
By way of example, Clark County, Washington, has a law library whose form kits may be purchased and accessed through this link: Law Library Kits.
As of the publication of this blog, the Clark County Law Library's website lists the following kits as being available for purchase, at a relatively modest cost:
Default judgment in Superior Court
Garnishment of a judgment
Gun rights restoration kit
Open and close probate with a will
Open and close probate without a will
Replevin in Superior Court
Small estate affidavit
Start a civil lawsuit in Superior Court
Start a contractor's bond claim
Transfer on death deed
Also available as a free download is a kit entitled:
Sealed name change for domestic violence survivors
The Clark County Law Library posts its open-for-business hours presently as being from 9 AM to 2 PM weekdays excluding holidays. It is located on the first floor of the Clark County Courthouse, 1200 Franklin St., Vancouver, Washington. The phone number for the law library is 564-397-2268. (Email: [email protected]).
Again, though – legal matters are complicated, and self-representation is risky. In my humble opinion, having practiced law for over 40 years, your best bet if you have any type of legal problem is to promptly seek competent advice and representation from an attorney with relevant experience in the field of your concern.
