On Saturday, March 4, 2017, our law firm, Schauermann Thayer Jacobs Staples & Edwards PS participated in Vancouver Family Magazine's 11th Annual Children's Festival at the Vancouver Mall. The festival is intended as an opportunity for family friendly businesses to interact with the SW Washington community.
Schauermann Thayer, as co-sponsors of the event, reached out to the Vancouver community with an eye toward promoting safety for the second year in a row.
From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., our attorneys and staff members met and chatted with community members and their families, gave away approximately 500 free bicycle helmets to their children, and raffled off two children's bicycles.
Children's safety is a subject near and dear to our hearts here at Schauermann Thayer, as our attorneys have handled many bicycle-related cases.
"Brain injuries and the risk of repeat concussions are a serious threat to a person's overall well-being," Partner Scott Edwards said. "Even minor blows to the head could have serious implications to long-term health. To us, this event is an opportunity to really give back and make our community safer."
During the event, our attorneys and staff members kept busy fitting children for bike helmets and entering families into the raffle for the bicycle drawing.
“We had a number of Schauermann Thayer staff members assist with our bike helmet giveaway program this year, and all of us really enjoyed it. Parents and grandparents alike were very appreciative. Most seemed to really understand the need to protect the children of our community from brain injuries and skull fractures, which of course begins with educating kids on the need to wear their helmets, and ends with making sure they have one to wear," said Partner Bill Thayer.
While visiting our booth, many folks also had questions about the type of cases our firm, Schauermann Thayer, handles. (The focus of the firm's practice is in handling personal injury and wrongful death cases,) and there was a surprising amount of interest by folks in signing up for “mock jury” participation.
A mock jury allows our firm's attorneys to call on our fellow community members to come in on a Saturday morning to offer their opinions on fact patterns we see in our cases. This helps our attorneys and our clients better understand how a real jury may view certain facts and issues in personal injury cases. We sincerely appreciate those people being willing to contribute their time and opinions.
For those that participated in and visited the Children's Festival: We'd like to thank Vancouver Family Magazine, the other exhibitors, and the Vancouver community for putting together such a successful event!
