Scott Staples Presents “Nuts & Bolts of Handling Mandatory Arbitrations”
On January 9, 2019, against the backdrop of the Columbia River in the Warehouse '23 event space, a group of interested local attorneys turned out to hear Scott Staples of Schauermann Thayer Jacobs Staples & Edwards PS and local attorney Bruce Colven explore how to handle a mandatory civil arbitration. It was organized as the Clark County Bar Association's latest installment of its popular and informative Nuts & Bolts series. Mr. Staples was selected because of his significant experience in arbitrations, as both an attorney representing his clients' interests and an arbitrator selected by the court.
The presentation was thoughtfully organized and engaging. It covered a wide range of topics, ranging from the decision to put a case into arbitration, what documents to include in submissions, the best way to introduce medical and non-medical evidence, and effective presentation of expert testimony, among others. The audience was interactive, participating in discussion and posing questions for discrete practice beyond personal injury or insurance disputes.
Scott Staples is a partner at Schauermann Thayer. His practice areas include primarily personal injury, wrongful death, and worksite injuries in both Oregon and Washington. He has participated in dozens of arbitrations and multiple trials in Southwest Washington and Oregon.
